DRUG, SOLVENT & ALCOHOL ABUSE COUNSELLING course no 39

On completion of this course you will receive two qualifications:

Qualification 1:
Drug, Solvent & Alcohol Abuse Counselling Diploma issued by Stonebridge Associated Colleges, entitling you to use the letters SAC. Dip. (Drug, Solvent & Alcohol Abuse Counselling)

Qualification 2:
ASET Level 4 Drug, Solvent & Alcohol Abuse Counselling  Award

This Course leads to an ASET Level 4 Award certificate for successful learners. That means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland (in which GCSEs are at levels 1 and 2 and A levels are at level 3).

The Award has been designed by the learning provider to meet specific learners' or employers' requirements and as such is not listed as a qualification on NQF. While the duration, content or assessment may vary from similar national qualifications, in accrediting the programme at level 4, ASET attests that its learning outcomes are at an equivalent level to a level 4 national qualification.

ASET is a recognised National Awarding Body.

This course sets out in simple form the essentials for understanding alcohol and drug problems, for making an assessment of the individual. For giving appropriate help within one’s own competence and for making referral to the agencies where necessary. The background of students might be diverse, but whatever the background the aim of this course is to enable the student to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to help the suffering individual and their family members into recovery.

Syllabus

Introduction
The qualities needed to counsel others in the therapeutic setting. The first part of the course will concentrate on drugs, addiction, counselling and the rehabilitation process. Towards the end of the course we will cover this in relation to alcohol addiction, counselling and the treatment process.

What you should now about addiction to alcohol
Effects of alcohol to the body
Effects of alcohol to the family

Assignment ten:
Conducting the diagnostic interview

Assignment eleven:
Counsellors assessment and diagnosis of the problem

Assignment twelve:
Creating a treatment plan in relation to alcoholism

Assignment thirteen:
Treating the individual

Assignment fourteen:
Patient/Client programmes

Qualification: SAC. Drug, Solvent and Alcohol Abuse Counselling Diploma

Professional Membership: On completion of this course students can apply for membership to 'Counselling' - a registered charity - and they will be able to use the initials 'CCC Reg.' after their names.

If however you would like to gain the full ASET accreditation for the course it will be necessary to complete one additional final examination, this examination can be done from home/work.
