CERTIFICATE IN RESPONDING TO SUBSTANCE MISUSE ASET LEVEL 3

Distance learning course of 7 modules

Who it’s Intended for

This programme is intended for people who wish to specialise professionally or have a particular interest in the problems connected to substance abuse. This would include all those employed in secondary education and beyond, as well as Outreach Workers, Parents, Care Workers and Police.

The Award

The programme is accredited by the nationally recognised, awarding body - ASET (Accredited Syndicate for Education and Training). Participants work through the distance learning course books in their own time and at their own pace – so there is no need to attend college to achieve this certified qualification.

Aims and Objectives

The course aims to engage the learner in all facets of substance abuse among young people in our society, whilst highlighting the legal and social context in which to best understand the objective/task of reducing the incidence of the many associated problems. It is intended to raise awareness of the drugs made available to young people and to enhance the knowledge of how best to tackle and treat the problems they create.

Syllabus:

Symptoms, effects and paraphernalia of drug use
The Law and responses to drug use including harm reduction and intervention
Drugs; history, facts, attitudes and values
Volatile substance abuse
Young people, alcohol use and misuse
Drugs and young people

Progression Potential

Though an invaluable learning programme in itself, for people with an interest in an informed approach to drugs education, this course serves as an ideal compliment to the ASET level 2 Certificate in Drugs Awareness.
